So we have been learning about travel hacking for about a year and a half now. This year we are really using all of our points and enjoying everything we have earned!

In June, we flew to India for free!
Our flights to Paris, France cost $84 round trip. (Oct. trip)
We even had enough points to get 4 tickets and to finally be able to take Idilio’s parent on this trip.

Last week, I decided I really wanted to go to a beach somewhere and do nothing big but be lazy. We had earned the Southwest Companion Pass early in the year. Southwest offers a deal if you earn 110,000 points in one year, your companion can fly free on every flight with you until the end of next year (companion pass). So until December 2020, we have buy one get one free flights through Southwest until we run out of points. Which is pretty awesome!
Our round trip tickets to San Juan, Puerto Rico booked 5 days in advance cost us 24,804 points and $11.20. Since we have the companion pass for me (Jen), my ticket did not cost any points, but only $11.20! But it keeps getting better! We also had enough Hyatt points saved up to stay in a Hyatt resort for the week for free!! No taxes or fees with that reservation, but breakfast isn’t included so we will be figuring out a cheap way to feed ourselves for the week (already bought a hot plate from walmart). We still plan on spending money on a car rental ($72.80 for 7 days), food, whatever fun activities we find but the most expense part of our last minute vacation cost us a total of $22.40. It doesn’t get much better than that!!

To earn all of these points for Puerto Rico, we had opened Southwest personal, southwest business, and hyatt personal cards.
I wouldn’t recommend opening the southwest this late in the year, or even making that your first credit card to get into travel hacking with. (Chase Sapphire will be my top choice) But if you are good with your money, staying cheap, and taking advantage of these offers, you could really have some pretty amazing vacations and pretend to be “fancy” while you’re sneaking your hot plate into a 5 star resort.
